Our stunning city, with its dramatic backdrop of mountains and its miles of accessible beaches, has much to offer in the summer months.
To help you enjoy our city, we organize tours led by Regent students to many of the attractions on the UBC campus and in Vancouver. Watch for the weekly activities schedule, which will be posted on this page as it becomes available.
Adventures We Recommend…
Vancouver is a very walkable city, with vast networks of paths, especially along the water. For the most scenic walking route from Regent to the city, start at one of the beaches close to campus, such as Spanish Banks. Have a wander down the bustling Broadway or 4th Avenue shops. Keep walking along the waterfront and you will get to Granville Island, where you can peruse the fresh fruit and veg stands, watch the buskers, and have a donut on the dock.
From Granville Island, you can catch the False Creek ferry to the Aquatic Centre at Sunset Beach, and walk towards the Vancouver Aquarium at Stanley Park (North America’s largest city park). After experiencing the treasures of BC’s unique marine life, get lost among Stanley Park’s trails, totem poles, and beaches or walk the sea wall for 360º views of the city.
Outdoor enthusiasts thrive in Vancouver with world-class biking, hiking, outdoor swimming, kayaking, sailing, and much more. The North Shore Mountains like Mount Seymour, Grouse Mountain, and Cypress Mountain offer hiking and mountain biking with stunning views of the city below.
Our vibrant cultural scene includes a number of summer festivals that have become a Vancouver tradition, such as the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the International Children’s Festival, and the Folk Music Festival. Bard on the Beach sets up tents on the sands of Kitsilano Beach with the Vancouver skyline as a backdrop. This year’s line of world-class performances presents Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and King John. Regent hosts a group to Bard during July. See Regent’s summer Activities Schedule when you arrive for details.
Vancouver has also gained a reputation as a “gourmet city” for food lovers. Check out the Food Vancouver website for restaurant listings, events, and coupons.
Book a dinner cruise around the harbour or head up to Grouse Mountain’s cable car, which zips you 1000m into the air. Restaurants, natural habitats, and a visitor’s centre will help you acclimate to the delightful height and dramatic views from Grouse’s peak.
If you are out to see the sites, hop on the old-time trolleys of the Vancouver Trolley Company. This live-commentated, 26-stop, Hop-on, Hop-off sightseeing tour is your natural transportation link between Vancouver’s top attractions.
Beyond the city limits
Take a day or half-day trip, or even an overnight trip on the weekend. Every destination offers attractions to suit every taste. All destinations are best visited by car, but there are many public transportation options available. Try one or more of the following: Victoria and Vancouver Island, Whistler, Sunshine Coast, Whale Watching in the Georgia Straight, Harrison Hot Springs, Coastal Mountains, Kelowna and The Okanagan wine country. For transportation to any of the islands, visit the BC Ferries website for routes, schedules, and fares.
The BC Passport website has detailed information about all things Vancouver.
Finally, here's a musical introduction to our city by Tourism Vancouver and performed by two local musicians.
